The Vikings are coming to Year 5!
Our Viking Day will be on Thursday 19th October when we will be celebrating all things Viking! The children will need to be dressed as Vikings for the day, if possible, but no helmets are needed as we are making those as part of our DT project. We hope you are looking forward to the invasion!

World Languages Day is on Tuesday September 26th and in Year 5 we are going to be looking at Norway as it fits in well with our topic on The Vikings.
The children are invited to come into school dressed in the colours of the Norwegian flag (red, white and blue.) You should have received information about the food which is available on that day but please make sure that your children have bought their food vouchers in advance as they won't be able to get them on the day. We look forward to meeting you all next Monday, 18th September, in the Year 5 area when we will be outlining some of the things that will be happening in Year 5 this year and giving you lots of information about the coming year for your child.
We hope that the meeting will answer any questions that you may have about Year 5. Below is the break down of our curriculum for the coming half term. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher.
In Year 5 the children will receive the following homework: Maths homework They will get Maths homework every Tuesday from their teacher which needs to be completed by the following Sunday. The maths homework should usually take about 45 minutes to complete. Spelling homework They will receive spelling homework every Sunday which needs to be completed by the following Sunday. This should take them about 30 minutes to complete. Sometimes it will be learning words but mostly it will be working on learning and applying the spelling rule that we have been working on in class. Reading homework We do expect the children to read for approximately 20 minutes per day and we would like you to sign their homework diary to show their reading at least 4 times a week. Optional Homework tasks These are a list of homework tasks from a variety of different curriculum areas. The children in consultation with you can choose which ones they would like to complete. We ask that the homework from this list is completed by Sunday 22nd October but the children can bring them into school at any time during the half term that they complete them. The list of optional tasks for this half term are attached below:
