Today 1st of November, sees the start of the inaugural International Exercise Challenge. Every month BSAK will challenge El Centro Inglis School from Spain in an exercise challenge. The challenge will be as many repetitions of an exercise in 2minutes. Children have the option of putting themselves forward to represent the School in the challenge and have a whole month to train to improve in the given exercise. A boy and girl will be chosen at random from Year 3-Year 6 and the total reps will be totalled to challenge the Spanish school. How it will work: 1st week of month- Introduction to the Exercise- a video will be sent to the teachers via a Google Drive link to explain the exercise of the month to your children - please see below. For the rest of the month- children will train for that particular exercise. Boxes will be in reception by the International Exercise Challenge display for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 for both boys and girls where they can put themselves forward to represent the school. 3rd week of the month- The Draw- a video will be sent to the class teachers to show the draw with the teacher picking one name from each box who will perform it for the competition and be videoed in their next PE lesson. 4th week of the month- The Competition- schools will swap videos, total the reps and see who has won the month’s challenge. We are currently learning the words to the UAE National Anthem so that we can sing it as part of our National Day celebrations. Please look at the Youtube clip to help you learn the words. Next week will be Anti Bullying week when in Year 5 we will be discussing what constitutes bullying and what can be done to help those being bullied as well as those who are bullies. There will be lots of circle time and discussion in PSCHE as well as an assembly. On Wednesday the children are encouraged to take part in the Non-uniform day which will involve wearing the colour blue (but not their uniform) to show their support for the Anti bullying campaign. Our anti bullying Ambassadors will be helping us to run the week as well.
Our Anti Bullying week coincides with the same week in the UK. This website gives further details about statistics and information for parents: http://www.anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk/anti-bullying-week/ This website offers help for parents: http://www.bullying.co.uk/advice-for-parents/ If you would like any further information then please do not hesitate to contact us. This week in Year 5 Maths we are learning about shape. A large part of understanding shape is being able to describe the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and therefore learning the language of shape is very important. Please take a look at the Year 5 pages in the shape dictionary below and make sure that you understand all the words and can apply them to your shape learning.
